I read about buying them at the Do It Center on here a wile back. You can get a hundred for about $15. I prefer them over lava rock.

Yeah after finding some numbers on actual surface areas on diffferent media, I have some decorative lava rock for the garden now...LOL

According to the info from wernerswatergardens, 35 year experience pond keepers, the top 2 medias for surface area was
#1 Stainless steel pot scrubber
#2 Plastic pot scrubbers
They did mention that there was some ceramics that were close, but had clogging issues...

Has anybody tried stainless steel scrubbies? the surface area was larger but not by much...

...See my signature for the west coast group buy on plastic scrubbies...

Go with the Plastic... not only is the surface area volume greater than almost anything else... it's cheaper than all the others as well ;) and easier to find in Volume... Replacing them in the future will be cheap as well... and you don't need to worry about them leaching anything into the water that your filtering :D

Yeah that's the new plan...I'm setting up to load them with plastic scrubbies as dense as possible and go with the high flow and see what she does...

Here are the trays I, duhhh, modded :irked:

looks good. did the same design on the bottom of the bins with that egg crate, but i used 30 gal tubs instead packed with pot scrubbies. works great on keeping a well well stocked 400gal nice n clear :)

Thats great to hear...Approx what was the count of scrubbies you used for 400 gals?

looking good! i dont know if you mentioned it yet, but what flow rate are you gonna be using? will you be using a spray bar? how about some type of drip plate?

I'm going for 900 - 1000 gph through a slotted spray bar...

OK here is the fix on the trays...Doooooh!

I wish I could find them that cheap around here. The cheapest I've found them is 8/$1. I just bought some over lunch for 6/$1.50. I'm going to bite the bullet and order 960 of them. I'm tired of looking in dollar stores and not finding them.
