Anyone got a picture of a fully grown bala?
I'v never seen a big bala before :)

They usually spaz out and kill themselves on the glass before they can reach full size. They are VERY fast fish and are almost never kept in a tank large enough to suit their needs.

My balas are as calm as goldfish. Tap on the glass, stick my hand in the water, siphon water out they are all right there just hanging. The catfish on the other hand go suicide.

Really? All the balas I've kept were spastic, especially when you get a good school of them together. Someone said here in a different thread, balas dont reach top speed in less than 10 feet, not even to mention maintaining that speed. Most people with 10 foot tanks keep fish larger than a bala.

Ya good luck housing balas where they can zoom zoom all day. My little guys can get going pretty good, but 2.75" to a 48" house they can get a good cruise out of it. Mine could be mellow due to that fact of they are the smallest in the tank with friends pushing the 8-10" mark.

my one justs does his little dance at the glass for a third of the day, and shoals with the SD's the rest of the time, and getting every bit of food he can. There is only 2 fish in my tank that are his size or bigger so he probably feels comfortable in my tank.

mine grew up in a 4x2x2, it mainly stayed in place at the front with the catfish (who circled up and down the side of the tank almost continuously)and occasionally cruised a little. When it was spooked it flew though. It enjoyed the 6x2x2 a lot better and spent more time cruising
