I had a BP donated to me by a former room mate and it is the most ornery animal I have ever seen. He strikes anytime I get anywhere near him. I've been told the bite won't hurt, but I don't fancy being bit by a snake. What have you snake owners done to settle Ball Pythons down? I'd really like to be able to handle this snake without being bitten.

Thanks rep. I have had many piercings, including some that were stretched to over 1/2". I'm going to just have to get bitten I guess. Thanks for your advice, and for the entertainment you provided my girlfriend while insulting my masculinity.

one bite won't usually do the trick, honestly. when getting the animal out of the enclosure go into it expecting to get bit. once you get bit do not i repeat do not pull your hand out of the enclosure. show the snake you are not going to hurt it but that you are going to still get him out. you do this by staying on the offensive not the defensive. in time the snake will so realize you are not a threat. i have used this technique with ball pythons as well as much larger species, it seems to work well for me. good luck with your new friend i hope you have the desire to take care of this animal for the long haul.

So, am I looking at getting bitten every day for a year? I guess I'll just learn to like it. I definitely plan on keeping this snake for as long as I can. I've always wanted one. I'm currently working on a new enclosure for the thing as he was given to me in a WAY-TOO-SMALL enclosure.

not for a year, the snake will get the point pretty quick. the snake see's you as a threat, once you show him you are not and are a constant. meaning you are going to get him out all the time, he will calm down.
