Ball Python

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a 20 gal long is perfect and a 30 is fine as well..............balls are very inactive, you'll be fine for a very long time................A 75 gal is insane and a waste of space for a 18'' snake......:) ;)

forgot to add this its much easy to control the high amounts of humidity balls require in a smaller setup..

I cant agree on the "high humidy" part of your post having to do with balls but can agree that it's best to keep half the tank lid covered as too retain heat!!!.........I do so on my JCP setup!!!..........Balls do not need a high humidity.................maybe a nice soak once a month to help with shed, but thats it................ they are a dry climate snake......"african or angola python" = ball python.....= dry climate...........;)

Edit............I agree that it is easier to control humidity in a smaller setup ( I have smaller setups for my smaller snakes) but as to balls needing high humidity, not true!!!!

I worded that wrong they dont need high humidy as in rain forest 60 % works i have none in my place from the climate control so my setups require a humid hide and its hard to mantain
in an large enclosure for me.

Thanks guys. I found a top for the tank in Lincoln. Guess, we will be traveling the 1 1/2 hours to Lincoln tomorrow to buy it.
He quoted me $24 for the lid and clamps. Not bad.
He will be housed in a 30 gallon long tank with mesh lid.

There is another choices balls do well in sweater boxes /tupper ware tubs they're cheap and they like the privacy they offer with the opaque sides heres a pic of one of mine

Beautiful ball. The one I am getting has beautiful markings also.
I have wanted to get another ball for about 5 years. I am so glad the time is finally here.

<ball pythons do not like large enclosures period do the research ...>
i have done over 12yrs of research. just because they are not particularly active and are shy doesn't mean they benefit from small enclosures, it just means they like their privacy and need to feel secure.

I've tryed large enclosures and had balls go off feeding and they were housed with hides..
Now since i've kept reptiles for many moons and have a freind who owns a rep store and breeds them i've met several breeders and dealers over time and all will confirm my findings.

I dont want to debate it but if you find something that states a bp should be housed in something bigger then a 30g std please post it with a link i would love to read it. .
