which would be a better beginner snake?
i like balls more, but i just want to hear your opinions.
some general info would be good.
ive heard that balls dont need flourescent light cause theyre nocturnal?
is this true?
what about corns?
how often should they be fed?

would a beardie (lizard) be a better choice for a herp beginner like me?

I'd probably stay away from a beardie. It's not a beginner rep.

I'd go with a ball python. I just dont think of corn snakes as interesting or cool.
I can go in the backyard and grab one whenever I want. You know what I mean?

if the ball is wild caught, it might be a finicky feeder. also they tend to be imprint feeders, and are one of the species more difficult to get onto rats from mice. i've even read on another forum that someone had one that imprinted onto gerbils [no idea why s/he fed it] and wouldnt accept anything else.
i personally prefer pythons/boids over any other snake but a corn is probably the better choice for a beginner.
or you could just go out into your backyard and grab a retic!

True ;) Undertank heat is the biggest suggestion I see.

well i recently aquired 3 corn snakes and 1 ball python. I love the python ecasue he is goofey. such as you open his compartment and get him out and for a minuet he does ball up but then relaxes and is on the go go go. and he is not a big eater. i have tried f/t mice and hes not going for it so im gonna try some live even though it can be dangerous. my corns have great appetites, very colorful and i think they just like to hang out. they dont do much. just sit here and watch whats going on. and with the three i have diffrent personalitys. the female hates me and tries to eat my hand off and rattles her tail at me. my anery male just wants to hang out and waits for me to get im out for a ltitle bit and when i do he kinda jsut is laid back and calm. my normal male corn is nice but i think he rathers to be jsut left alone. he will tolerate me fiddling in his cage and a handling and then is ready to go back. i like cornsnakes mainly becasue the bright colors and the vast array of colors. but really its going to be your decision. lol. but it think i might just like the ball just a little bit more and more after we get the feeding issues under control :)

A bearded dragon is probably the best, most responsive reptile pet you can get.Whilst the set-up and feeding may cost more,in the long-term you will find a beardie to be far more rewarding, they actually enjoy human interaction, and love to come out and run around the house. If going for a snake, corns are far easier to maintain than ball pythons, which are often problem feeders (although you guys in the US tend to feed live, which can help).Lizard-Beardie,Snake-Corn.

im not in the US.
but i'll be feeding dead mostly.
dont want an injured snake.:(
ive heard that about beardies.
and my friend has em.
but she doesnt take care of them properly...she doesnt even know what supplements are and didnt know they eat insects and fruits other than mealworms.....:irked:
thas why im thinking of getting something else.
so im thinking corn would make a better starter?

i really personally dont like all the color variations and stuff.
ive heard that balls can be better for handling than corns.
and i really do like balls more.
but seems like they have problems with feeding..
