GT are aequidens and as far as I know they have never been hybridised with anything outside of their own genus. it would be impossible to breed a GT with a BP.
furthermore there is a genetic condition in cichlids that causes the balloon fish. normal fish can have one balloon fry in a regular batch. and its a trait that breeders have selectively bred for people who want something different. the same way how albino cichlids arent too common yet there are millions of albino oscars. those traits were selected earlier on and selectively bred for the end result.
can I add that a BP is a synspilum and midas hybrid that has a corruption in the genes which makes a certain percentage of the fry have balloon shape. if you breed a midas and syn you will get fry that show normal bodys of both parents and also the BP deformed body. seeing as how neither the synspilum or the Midas can breed with a GT there is no question at all that these balloon GT´s are full GT fish.
