you see what it says, This is one shark that is successfully kept, but needs a large aquarium for room to swim in and excellent filtration! These are among the smallest of sharks at about 40 inches. Adults of the Bamboo Shark, Brown-spotted Cat Shark, or Brown-banded Catshark can be kept reasonably well in a 150 gallon or larger aquarium.

That site is full of wrong info. First off, it's not a catshark. Catsharks have vastly different jaw structure. If you can't get the name right, no way the other info is solid. They aren't of the smaller bamboos, brown bandeds are one of the larger bamboos. 3-4 feet is accurate for size, females getting bigger than males. You'll need way more than a standard 180 gallon for one. Think about the short end of the tank being twice the full adult length of the shark. So you're looking at something 6'x 12' or so for a good sized home. Even better, look into a round pool. Much better for sharks.

Most catsharks stay small. I really like coral cats and marbled cats. Both stay around 24", but you should keep them in groups. They are nocturnal, so don't expect to see them out in the day, and get used to feeding at night with low light or no lights on. They are a social shark, that will pack hunt. It's amazing to watch. I've kept and bred them before. One of my favorite small tropical sharks.

i like the catsharks...i have just read that they kill tankmates for no reason even if they can't eat them...is this true?...if i don't get a pack of coral or marble cats (witch is sounding really good to me right now...how large does the white spotted get to?

as for that site i don't go off of the tank info and such as they think a 4' fish is fine in a 6'x2' footprint...

Only if you don't care for them correctly. They only hunt to eat. If they are fed right, no worries.

White spots can be in a slightly smaller system. They do not reach as much girth as the bamboo but still reach a good 36''. I would say if the brown bamboo is out of reach, then the white spot is out of reach as well. I have not noticed any particular behavior differences between the brown and white spot, although the white spot is much longer (well white has smaller body longer tail) and not as stalky. Still a great little shark that will grow.

If the cat sharks are not doing it for you look at the carpet species of sharks. That include brown carpet sharks and grey bamboos. Although much harder to locate, anything is possible on the interent lol. They all max out anywhere from 25-36 inches. Which is a slightly larger shark and are not skinny/non sharkish like the coral or marble.

I have been getting my sharks from a local whole saler, but if i didn't these prices are awesome...
