i was reading and looking around and people where saying you need a min of 400 gallon tank for a bamboo shark, i was like wtf, i see people keep them in 180 and 210 with other triggers and puffers and thats with 2 sharks, i dont know, im soo confused :nilly:

A lot of people keep their dogs chained in a cage too. Dog lives for a while. Doesn't mean it's correct.

180 is too small. They won't last long.

The down side to saying "the smallest size possible" is that the smallest bamboos are harder to keep than big sharks. The smallest speices have very specific food needs, and are often cold water sharks. Take all that into consideration.

It's also not just about gallons needed to offset the biological load of the animal(s), but they also need swimming space. If they don't get enough space as pups, you'll end up with growth issues, and shortend lives.

thanx for that tid bit... i am just starting my full research on them and if i do get one, witch i plan to, the 'life tank' will be based on the footprint as gallons don't mean much basicaly like with aros and such...as soon as i get a good paying job i plan to have a few larger setups going aswell as some other smaller ones...i will be building 1 or 2 10'x5-10'x2.5' plywood tanks with a front veiwing window...one of witch will be a salt and the other for aros and such...i just have to get into a house first...

witch sp would be the 'slowest growing' and what would the average growth rate be for them?

Remember what zoo said though are smaller species are harder to keep....

oh ya i am keepin that in mind as a 'slower grower' isn't always the smallest in the end...i'll end up getting one at some point and get the right sized setup for it...

so if we were to say the most commonly availible bamboo what would be the 'min tank setup' for life?

i have been into sharks since i was a kid...i planned a long time ago that after i win the loto i will buy a small island like HI or something and fence of a large section of ocean and have a great white:grinno:...then i'll never have to worry about the neighbor kids stealing my stuff ever again...
