Bamboo Shrimp - Atyopsis moluccensis

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have kept one bamboo shrimp and all shrimp generally prefer peace in their own tank with others to live long lives.Personally i have seen them as bamboo shrimp and rainbow shrimp and one is at the other an of the pricing spectrum.
The convicts might pick are one of the on them but if shelter is provided they might be okay.Asian fan shrimp are one of the only shrimp species that need soft water while others actually prefer harder water.

now that i think about it, i just moved some fish around, does anyone know if a bamboo shrimp would be picked on by 2 convicts in a 20 gal. long

That has bad news all over it in my mind, especially if it is a mating pair of convicts...

i revoke my question, i was considering it since it did well w/ my pacu. but my pacu also ate a golf ball sized snail the other day. it was one i hatched and had living w/ him for a while. sniffle sniffle.

I've had a pair for almost a year. They are easy to keep, and pretty cool to watch. I wouldn't trust them with cons though

I've had several of them, they are friendly and don't hurt your other fish. They eat only plankton. mine where not very energetic, they sit in front of the outlet of the filter to eat everything that comes along with the current.
When you buy them they are mostly brown colored, when they shed they become orange. There is also an african species, Atya Gambonensis, that becomes about 14 cm and is dark bleu.

My ebjds tore them into pieces which was surprising because they were twice the size of the ebjds. They were awesome while they lasted...

I have one in my bichir/cichlid tank and she does just fine. I know I've posted about this before but I'm finally getting a camera (okay, it's just a camera phone) this weekend so expect pics.

I have one in my 55 with a baby bichir. The bichir swam up to it today and the shrimp punched it the face or did something that made the bichir bolt.

From what I read, I would think they would be lunch. One of the common points I read was to keep them in a tank where they will have no threats because of the modified pincers being "filter fans"...this leaves them with no defense at all. Again, this is what I've read...I don't have any personal experience yet.

While they have no defences it's not like their armed brethren are that much better off, if the fish is big enough to eat it it's going to get eaten, pincers or not.
