I am really dissappointed to see GSD's in the same light as pits here. First off GSD's are MUCH smarter than pits which allows them to evaluate situations and decide when and when not to defend themselves or there "pack". Where pits attack out of sheer attitude and cruelty. You will rarely see or hear of a GSD attacking someone out of there "territory" just for the fun of it. I have the perfect example in my GSD. I can take my dog into public off of the lead around any other dogs without the slightest hint of aggression. BUT step into my front door without permission and you won't be attacked but your not going anywhere either. I have put alot of time into my shepherd but most of this behavior is instinct. My dog will only attack as a last resort. I will say this is somthing I DO NOT reward or like for that matter. But This is what makes GSD'd desirable to there owners. They are and always have been protectors. I am not saying ban the breed either due to the fact that it just gives the feds another controlling factor over our life. But the truth is they are dangerous animals and if you have wolf crosses as well you are sitting on a ticking time bomb. These animals have wild instincts that are completely unpredictable. Just my .02

well....i cant make eny of you believe me, but my dogs are close to perfect!!
because nothing is perfect!! I have 4 dogs and i can let my mice out in a closed room with 1 of my dogs and none go "missing". And with my dogs, almost enyone can walk through my gate, and nothing happens. but, if you try to hurt me or my family and CLOSE freinds, then ur in trouble....cause you'll have all 4 of them on ur ass!!!
but like i said, i can't convince eny one of that! and nobodys ganna listen to a 13 year old girl right!!!

my GSD charged out of his yard to practically rip my arm off about 5 ays ago.
I love him to death,he's and old dog but my arm is still in a cast.
thats not the problem,he didnt just bite once,he came back(now, this is a dog that I've had for 13 years)thankfully only the first bite did alot of damage.
after I took my hood off he stopped, but I know if he did that to some of the idiot kids around here that ignore the beware of dog signshe be put to sleep.

my friends' four pits have all got loose once,we found them playing with some rotties. "sheer attitude" huh? :screwy:

First off I am a huge fan of GSDs, but to say they are "MUCH smarter than pits" is ridiculous.

How can you say that? That is absurd. :nilly: How would a pit have any conception of cruelty?

I have been attacked twice by GSDs both attacks were in public parks. The dog's owners, irresponsibly and illegally, had their dogs off their leashes.

:iagree: and THANK YOU!!!

I love pitbulls, i have a black brindle living here with 2 kids and a beagle and so far no problems. I agree any breed abused will be a problem. But we cant ban dog breeds because another breed will be blamed next. If a teenager kills or fights do we ban having kids, kick boxing, karate, all make a more agressive person ban sports..Maby the parents shouldent have kids, but many have them with little problem, just like dogs.... Sorry to vent we just always see what the media wants

Kick boxing, karate, dont make anyone more agressive. If it does than its just a ignorant person. These are supose to teach you self defence, But i'm straying from the topic. I do believe that some pits, even if brought up in an amazing, loving home, they can still turn on you. It is all baced on the cards the dog is delt, some can be amazing loving pets, and some can be mean killing machines. I've never owned a pit, But I see them at the pound all the time and I love them. If I could I would own one in a heart beat... But in my experience ALL dogs can be aggressive, for example when I was around 2-5 we had a husky. He was the most loving dog to me and my sister *( I was around 3 and her 7) But to my parents he hated them and everyone else around. He was the most stubborn dog, we even toulk him to a training camp that cost 1,000$ and they called the next day and said come pick him up.. It all just depends on how lucky you are. Most of these species of dogs, pits, akitas, husky, doberman, rots, and shepards have all been breed to do a certin task, pits were for fighting and hunting hogs. And over time they have all been tought to fight and do their job... Half of this probably dosent make sence but Thats just how I feel. If a dog is raised in a loving home than he has a better chance of being an amazing pet/friend/ part of the family. But there is always that chance with any dog that he will be an bad apple.
