First off I am a huge fan of GSDs, but to say they are "MUCH smarter than pits" is ridiculous.

How can you say that? That is absurd. :nilly: How would a pit have any conception of cruelty?

I have been attacked twice by GSDs both attacks were in public parks. The dog's owners, irresponsibly and illegally, had their dogs off their leashes.

I can say they are MUCh smarter from experience. I have raised and trained 2 shepherds and helped raise 3 pits. Shepherds are loads easier to train than pits do to the simple fact they pick it up faster. Also I have personally witnessed shepherds firgure out problems (like opening their pen) while he pit just jumped up and down thinking if he kept jumping he would get out. HHMM only MY experiences with the breeds.

Also I have seen pits attack a chow 3 on one unprevoked and seem to enjoy ripping this dog to shreads. They were barking and yapping the same they did when you where playing with them. CRUELTY!

and to your last comment you are either the most unlucky person in existence, getting attacked by the same breed of dog twice or lying. Not a statment just an observation!! I am not saying there is a large breed of dog that is exempt from aggressivness. I just don't feel that GSD's should be lumped in with PITS

oh and on a side note My dogs were still on private property when unleashed. I am a very firm believer of leash laws for my dogs saftey and the saftey of others

 :screwy: wow your a smart one ;)

Isent there a breed ( dont know the name ) I think its a mastif, that is like 3-4ft when its on all 4's. Now if a 4ft dog is on all fors immagine how big it will be on 2 legs. I'm more affreaid of owning a cow or mastif than any other dog.

after I took my hood off he stopped, but I know if he did that to some of the idiot kids around here that ignore the beware of dog signshe be put to sleep.

it seems like your old and probably nearly blind gsd mistook you for a burglar when you had your hood on. and if that was a pitbull it would have never let go of your arm. pitbulls can almost never be stopped once they decide to go after something. i witnessed it first hand when a neighbors pitbull decided to kill my dog.

If I may add my 2 cents.
There are no dangerous breeds, pibulls, all breeds of mastiffs, et al, included. There are dangerous owners..there are guys who have dogs like extensions of their penises or like a machine gun..There are guys who should never be allowed to own a dog, of whatever breed.

We see more accidents happen with pits, and rotweilers because of the savage inbreeding that is done by unscrupulous "breeders" to quickly provide satisfaction to the demand for dogs by those penis or machine gun lacking individuals.

Now it is the pits and the Rots, a couple of years ago it was the dobermann. it has all to do with the trend, not with the dogs. In these here parts you are noticing the beginning of sucker attraction to that most wonderfull dog, Dogo Argentino..It won't be long before they are considered as killing machines, which they are not.

and the thing is that it will turn out badly for the dogs, because everything turns out badly for the animals in our modern times, and people calling animal control just because a dog is walking alone on the street only intensifies the hype, I am sorry to say and enhances the "panic"..from here to the politicians legislating ( almost always tottally wrong ) to "protect us from harm" is one small step as we all know.

As to the German Shepherds intelligence. I would not say that they are more intelligent..My mastiffs are as "intelligent "( if one can apply that to dogs ) as germans shepherds..The fact is that German Sh are the ephitome of what the germans call "leitfahigkeit", which means the Willingness to be conducted by the owner, the eagerness to be 1000% attuned to the owner..and that, no other breed posesses like them..

A German shepherd will always be willing to play, to exercise..ask one of my dogues to go and pick up the ball, it will open one eye, look at you as if you were the bigest idiot on earth and simply ignore it..

sory for the long post

Cheers

I dont agree that you put GSD's with pitts as they are completely different dogs, and are not a like. I also disagree with it being a trend to which dog is a "problem dog" because although you may be right with some, pitts have always been a problem. You can't blame them for being agressive as they were bred that way. Any dog that got bred for badger baiting isn't going to be the best pet, or well trained.

of course it can be agressive..but a respoonsible owner needs to know how to curb that agressiveness and breeders should outbreed the most agressive strains...it all goes back to breeders and owners.

I don't want to start a discussion here, but if one studies the statistics one will see that the majority of dog agression to people comes from other breeds, german shps included, with cockers being high up on the list, simply dogs that people have grown complacent with, dogs that sit on the couch and are humanized..those are the dogs that bite...because they are not properly educated..."fighting breeds" as they are known, account for a very small % of accidents, please belive me..

I believe most pit bulls are of kind sweet nature.. maybe a more loyal type dog to its master.. sort of a dog that responds more to one person.. but i have witnessed a kindness from them with all family menbers as long as they live a quiet respected life.. the problem started with unscrupelous people who bred them to fight in a pit.. they would continue to breed the meanest tougher dog until they almost became visious by nature.. most pit bulls are not in this cycle of breeding.. most respected breeders have bred far away from this... and most pitbulls are just like any other dog.. if you train them properly and they live in a loving home they are going to grow up to be wonderful dogs with no threat to anyone.. it is in my mind the one who owns the dog is the one to be wary of.. some of these people actually initiate that the dogs to show aggression .. they want the pit bull to be vicious.. these few dogs have wrecked havoc on all the others.. they have gained a bad reputation.. more and more i think responcible people will make a difference in the pit bulls life.. as witnessed here on my pet thread.. you can see all the pitbulls smiling and happy... it is definitly the people who own them that makes the all difference..in the future of pit bulls and i hope you all rally on so that someday they will not be singled out and dubbed as mean.. it is not fair being persecuted for what a few have done.

So you can take your "dog into public off of the lead around any other dogs without the slightest hint of aggression. " This would seem to contradict "My dogs were still on private property when unleashed. I am a very firm believer of leash laws for my dogs saftey and the saftey of others"

Now who's the lier.

You think getting bite by the same breed twice makes me the "most unlucky person in existence" What a about Softturtle: "I have a problem with GSD attacking me...three different dogs, three different times".

If I'm the most unlucky in existence, what does that make Softturtle?

Better yet, myself and Softturtle are in secret alliance to discredit all GSDs in the world.

Sorry to break your bubble but GSDs can and are aggressive dogs in the wrong hands can and have hurt people. NO DIFFERENT THAN PITS.

And just so you know I love GSDs and if you think that is a lie here is a pic of my girl.
