Poor pits have already lost the battle, due to ignorance ( and I don't even like them...)
but another breed will follow, thne another and so on..and we will be stuck with lap dogs and hamsters at the end of the day...

let me state a simple fact. Dogs are not only bred for physical qualities but also for other things such as dissposition and attitude. Pits for the most part have been bred for aggressivness and fighting. While there might have been "good" pits most of the calm disspossition has been removed. Just keeping your dogs leashed and trained doesn't always make you a responisable dog owner. You should research the parents a little and see what kind of attitudes they and previous offspring have. I spent hours with my dogs parents and sibling before deciding to purchase my pups. Making sure they weren't overly aggressive. I will state again I don't dislike pits or any dog for that matter. Nor do I agree with banning any dog. I am just stating they are dangerous as a breed. More dangerous than any other breed and the history proves it. If you want my honest opinion there are many more breeds including GSD's that physically posses the ability to be MORE dangerous than pits BUT don't posses the aggresivness and drive!!

I agree that they can be a dangerous breed and also agree that taking the time to find a reputable breeder with dogs of even temperament and sound disposition are key factors. And one of the main problems now with Pits is there are a lot idiot breeders that just want to make a quick buck, and have no intention of maintaining the normally good nature of these dogs.

But with that said I don't believe that they are inherently more aggressive towards humans then most protection dogs. In fact in my experience they are far less aggressive than most P.D.'s but I do not dispute that these dogs can and have hurt/killed people.

Are they more aggressive towards other dogs than any other breed? Again I don't believe this to be the case either. Can you really say they are more dog aggressive than an alaskan malamute, dogo canario, tosu inu.........and I am sure I could list a half dozen more?

Again, you could wipe the pit bull breed out of existence and there would be a bunch of breeds just waiting to take its place. And as you said "there are many more breeds including GSD's that physically posses the ability to be MORE dangerous than Pits". Now all they need is to be bred and owned by the same unscrupulous people that destroyed the pit bulls reputation.

Its really just the beginning of the end. One day owning any potentially aggressive dog will probably be against the law. Governments don't seem to want to solve the really problem.

In a time where dangers are always present the best deterrent to crime being committed in a burglury in ones home is a dog.. dogs alert you to danger and try to protect you from harm.. there are some dogs that do this job better then others and if you are to own a dog of this quality then you should know how to protect that dog as he protects you.. you put away a dog that has the ability to bite or be aggressive trying to protect you.. you keep him under lock and key as he does for you when innocent people are around..you take all the precautions that it takes to make sure he is safe from harming anyone .. because ultimately he will be in harms way too.. I do this with my doberman at all times..there are no exceptions .. no excuses.. he is out of the picture unless i have him secure and socializing.. you leave no stone unturned.. you take responcibility to protect him as he protects you.. and thats the only way to secure their future.

Thank you so much for saying that.. I want all animals to have a chance in this world... i am not trying to play mrs goody two shoes..it took me along time to learn and appreciate life and all its creatures.. i made mistakes and i am sure i will continue to at times.. but my heart is in the right place now.. and it takes committment ... whether its a fish or a horse or anything in between..you cannot just own something you must commit to it ..or give it up.. theres no half way measures..its all or nothing.. and thats the way it should be with all that you love.
