Banded Leporinus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine loves to chew other fish and all of his tankmates are in the heaven right now...

Since this topic has been brought up, I will tell you what mine does. It never bugs the small fish but occasionaly chases the severum around. However, this only lasts a few seconds, since the severum is nearly his size.

i had this fish once and it killed my oscar! my rtbs and a small id shark. keep with big fish and buy small! it picked at my bichir and made him go crazy. these fish shouldn't be kept with fish smaller than it no matter what!

I dont trust any leporinus with other fishes expect Mbunas and other aggressive Lake Rift cichlids. Just wait when your fish starting to disappearing or beat up one day.

I also wanted this fish with the below listed fish, but I am not risking it, by tank is peaseful.

we have had many leporinus over the years. if kept as a single specimen they are fin nippers with slower moving tankmates, but no real issues with tough or fast fish. right now we have one about 7" in a 300 with 4 bigger oscars and a large cat, no problems at all, maybe due to lots of space. we had a group of a dozen once and had no problems with tankmates, but there was always a definite pecking order and the smallest leporinus had few fins left (sort of reminded me of the dynamics in an mbuna tank). lots of driftwood and rockwork for places to stay out of site helped in that setup. also, they seem to love veggies.
