My aro has lost his barbells, pos due to my barbs or smallest oscar i think, please tell me they will grow back, please!!!

by the way he still hasnt eaten anything in 3 days of being in my tank, should i be worried yet?

it depends. Some do grow back, some don't..

there are guys who advocate making a small wound in the place where the barbels grow to excite the barbel root . I have had barbel less aro's, never had the guts to excite said roots...who cares about barbels, anyway..:)

put some salt in the water to help heal and it should be fine.

your fish lifts weights? :D

if its not eating and the aros barbel was bitten off it might be stressed out. Is it being picked on much in the tank?

My aro seems to constantly knock off his barbels. They start growing back and he knocks them off again, presumably on objects in the tank. There is no fish in that tank capable of doing this, so I know it's self-inflected damage. Doesn't seem to bother him, so I don't worry about it.

i dont think he is being massively picked on, my smallest oscar nips him every now and again, whenever i watch it is just a nip to the end of his tail and the aro spins around and away.

here are some pics (excuse quality, camera phone):

first day i got him:

now (back:

i have noticed this evening that part of his tail at the back end is missing now, my smallest oscar is no leaving the tank to a friends, hopefully nothing else is bothering the aro!!

got a picture of the damage?

also im gunna tell you right off the bat that jd,gt, pleco, and oscar will be a 4 course meal to your TSN very soon.

Pics posted!

yes my tsn is growing fast! so are my oscars, pleco is starting to grow now but not fast enough (he makes too much mess anyway lol) as for the gt and jd, they seemto be the slowest growers in the tank and i really like them, i hope they dont end up food i quite like them!
