Bare Bottom Equals Better/Worse?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Had to get to the end of the thread before someone finally stated the obvious: if you chooose to use a bare bottom glass then it should be painted a dark and natural color black is fine. You can buy a spray paint that sprays a mix of natural colors so that the effect can be like that of granite or marble. This a really good way to go for BB tanks.

I would even suggest a compromise. Spray the spatter piant on the outside face of the bottom pane and also include a sprinkling if fine natural colored sand that matches the paint closely. Many fish seem to like even a small amount of sand to search for food. I doesn't have to be very much at all. It will not make any difference whatsoever as far as effective filtering is concerned.

Thanks bro! :D

As Idealconcepts said above, I think it's not what's on (or not on) the bottom, but what color it is. So if you have a white BB tank some fish will look washed out, but if it's black (like mine) then no problems..

FWIW

I just put new gravel down in my gar tank less than 24 hours ago and his color is almost back to normal.

pics of before and after, demjor19? i'd really like to see the difference.
