Bare bottom tanks

This thread must win the prize for most derails...

I keep bare bottom tanks and i have kept and grown out rays , tigrinus , datnoids, arowanas, puffers and many others that people cannot even keep for months at a time let alone years . I keep it because i like the way it looks, i prefer my detritus on my filter and not on the tank . I have done both , substrate and bare for 20 years and for highly stocked tanks, i still prefer bare bottom.

Please refrain from generalizing, negative or otherwise , fishkeepers based on what substrate ( or lack of ) they use. The best fish keepers have used both methods with great results. Its just a matter of preference.

Sorry, I was just curious if there were specific benefits to the bare tank, not start a war. If everyone liked the same thing this would get very boring and we would all keep one type of fish. It was not meant as an insult to those who keep them and to attack the ones who do is just small minded. I personally don't like the look as much, but there not my tanks and it does allow me to enjoy your fish without alot of distractions. So to each his own, and once again my apologies to anyone who felt slighted by my post.

The water tends to be easier to maintain and cleaner. Discus breeders and even ray breeders use bare bottom setups. Are these world class breeders "lazy" or "lacking in passion" ?? Ill leave that up to you guys to decide.

all of my tanks are bare bottoms but most are painted black. I have kept many tanks in the past with gravel but find it much easier to keep the water cleaner without substrate to hide the filth and also it's easier for the filters to pick it up. also if you look at the pics of large breeders be it discus or guppies none of their tanks have any substrate in it. and lastly if theirs alot of filth in the substrate theirs a much higher chance for disease.

BAREBOTTOM can be just as good as any other tank... all depends on the TLC u put into the hobby.

Well done Cohazard you've proved you can manipulate my words into ones seemingly derived of anger and perhaps even a loathing that you robustly claim must have an indication on my political stance.

I like how you only picked the parts of my post that you could attempt to exploit into appearing like some form of scornfulness when in reality I stated why I believed it could be considered cruel; notice how I also admitted I could be wrong about that too?

My post wasn't an expression of anger and I'm sorry you may have interpreted that way but if you did, it's clearly only because you lapsed in your reading comprehension. :D

I've been :chillpill: dude, why you gettin heated?

you don't speak with logical reasoning.... stereotyping everybody. thats all.

I think Cohazard was right on the money. Unless the text of the post has changed since you posted it, I furthermore do not think he 'lapsed in his reading comprehension" either. I feel rather compelled to tear apart your post as well:D You didn't convey anger, I agre with that. But exchanges of ideas and respect should not be accompanied with zealous, over-ego inflating antics about "wack" "ugly" and even more intrusive "demonstration of lack of compassion for their fish" that was stated earlier. I could go on, but everyone knows the rest so not gonna pick through the countless demonstrations of lack of open-mindedness, respect, and ignorance displayed in a "particular" post.

You obviously do not know crap of what you are talking about, and attemped to insidiously convey disrespect towards fellow fishkeepers. Great part about it is, I personally laugh at the ignorance displayed.

"Dislike" and "do not agree with" are completely different than the "strikes at compassion AND MORE" that was earlier stated. This is a forum...to each his/her will do. So....I have multiple tanks, 2 with substrate (220 and 30 gallon) and barebottom (240 gallon). At a moments notice I will post up pics of my well manicured, healthy fish tanks at any time. All of my tanks are the results of hard work and the wisdom I have learned from fellow monsterfishkeepers who have shared factful knowledge....not biased rhetoric.

Until you have owned anything larger than a 60 gallon tank, or have experience in the matter at hand, you really shouldn't even pipe in at all. A simple "I do not like it" would be just fine.

Nice diction, but it doesn't save those statements from being false.;) I didn't manipulate your words... it's all quoted word for word and in complete sentences/points (I left out the last sentence though, that's it). Sooo, since I didn't alter what you typed in any way , any evidence of anger or loathing your quoted statments portray is strictly inherited by your ideas. I didn't get a sense of anger or loathing from what you wrote, just that it was ignorant.

Oh, and the whole mussolini thing... that was just a joke.

Again, just to be clear, I quoted word for word, and in full sentences. Much the way I'm quoting your rebuttal. You're accusing me of making your post sound scornful? I'll quote your original post for your sake:

Your original post... full first sentence said:
bare bottom tanks are wack, ugly, and in my opinion a measure of ones true compassion for their fish.

Had I interpreted it that way, sure, but I didn't. I just wanted to point out that it was not only biased and ignorant, but it was incorrect.

I'm not getting heated, trust me. :D (<-- see? all smiles)
