Bare Bottom Vs. Sand...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wouldn't a layer of sand or gravel provide more biological filtration, seeings how they are huge ammonia producers?

Sand and small gravel have HUGE surface areas for bacteria colonization.

i had sad with my old motoro and unknown species and they lived fine on sand no problems and then i got my marble motoro and he wouldn't eat on gravel or sand so i switched to bare bottom and he is eating, could just be coincidence who knows, im going to go with the Asian style now though with a piece of black plastic of w.e it is on the bottom:popcorn:

Hello !!

I´ve got Sand with a wide of 1-3mm. Only in the tank for new or ill rays, i´ve got the bare bottom

I curently have este marine sand in my tank. I am building a pond for my rays and was wondering if there is a different substrate to use the will not irritate the rays. The este sand would be very expensive for a pond.

i wouldn't use beachsand
there always pool filter sand its cheap and i have used it with no problems

^ AGREED ^
