I have recently bought a 6" Silver Aro and I am currently in the process of getting (and setting up) a monster tank to keep this monster.

Question: Why do so many people (and forums and "experts") and my Local Fish Store guys recommend keeping Arowanas in a bare tank? (bare= no background/wall-paper and no substrate)

Some say it's easier tank maintenance, other just like the way it looks. There is no reason why you would have to keep a bare bottom tank, just a matter of preference.

Only advantage is that it is easier to clean/maintain.

Bare tanks are easier to clean since arowana's eat big and poop big....
Also having a bare tank without other fish prevents "Drop Eye"

easier to maintain. thats all.

If I had to guess, I would say having a bare-bottom tank might (according to some theories) actually cause DE in Silver Aros.

And yes, I agree with SMPAGE, bare-tanks are really boring.

Not a DE thread.

Back on topic......

I keep bare bottom tanks for the ease of cleaning as well as swimming room for fish. No obstacles to lose scales on and IMO it showcases your stock rather than useless deco.
