So I'm in petsmart picking up some food and I see this rather large (5-6") cichlid. It has bars running the length of the fish. Pretty red and yellow between them. I've never seen a Midas with this color pattern, but I'm a noob when it comes to Midas....

1) is it worth $10 and

2) could it cohabitate with s 6" Jd, 5" GT, 4" firemouth and con in a 90 for about 2 months? 300 gallon will be here the first week of July so this 90 is temporary. Very pretty fish that I'm unfamiliar with. Looks like it may have a slight case of hth going on but nothing real serious.

3) once in the 300 can it live with a festae and/or jag? Those are the 2 fish I had planned on adding but I'm pretty flexible as far as future stocking goes.

Every site I visit talks about them being super aggressive but it's a really pretty fish for $10. Should I try it or skip it and go with the original plan.
Thanks in advance!

not sure its a midas could be a flowerhorn (red) or dovii most midas are dark orange and or lite orange. they also will have white markings on them. well atleast my does. he is 10 in right not and orange and white. plus its petsmart there not that damn smart....but as far as temperment it all depends on the fish.. mine is very calm and i can actually rub his nuchal hump on his head. and when i walk up to the tank he always comes top water to let me

Yeah, I thought about that. They even said it came in as a Midas but she wasn't 100% sure. I checked around online and found a few pics of Midas with bars and it looks just like this fish. It's shaped like one. Wish I'd grabbed a pic now. One online site even said they(wild) will lose their bars in time

mine is still only 3.5in or so, but its funny he'll sneak up behind my 9in jag and try to nip his fins. so i think my midas might need its own tank down the road but its only in a 125 as of now.

Might have to. Really nice fish. Anybody with experience on just how aggro they get? I know all fish are different but what are your experiences?
I only had normal Midas but I think a barred one has the same behaviour as normal ones, since it's both Citrinellum. Behaviour is pretty aggressive.

You think it could live with the Jd, GT, firemouth and con in a 300? I was going to put it in the 90 with the others for now but I might put it in my 20 that has all my bio for 300 just for about a month and a half two months tops.
