well i got the green light from the boss so its now time to try a few designs. please let me know what you think and don't hold back.

the basement is unfinished so i put together a few quick ideas on sketch up. the red box is a beam and can't be moved. the walls are set and will not be moved. the open tank area is 18' wide and 30" deep. the dark brown is a planned bar under the beam ( wet bar behind drain plumbing is installed ). the light brown is some kind of stand arrangement. the tank sizes are dual 120's around a 240. 48 x 24 x 24 and 96 x 24 x 24. i think the 24" depth is perfect for the 30" unfinished space. the width limit of 1 big tank is 8' due to stairs. i have a landing and a turn to get in the basement. anything larger than 8' just wont happen.

i thought about one big plywood tank but want to keep the plumbing under the tanks in the stands and want to keep different fish. i think the MTS will allow this better than one big tank.

please let me know what you think. i am undecided about the second 120 in the back corner. i could go with three 120's and nothing in the corner but thinking about the bar seat at the end being right next to a big tank is really appealing.

If you're trying to post sketchup pictures first export it in 2D to your desktop then attach the file to your post.

It's kinda nice to be able to tell a Buckeye what to do :naughty:

when i push the insert pic link it keeps asking me for a url. i've added them before so i don't know why its not working. the facebook link in the first post has the pics. i get the same thing in IE 8 and firefox. maybe it's the pic limit thing.

i should have put in a MI disclaimer. too late now!:irked: thanks for the export tip. it worked great.

You save the export 2D file from Sketchup onto your desktop or wherever you want temporarily. When you want to insert the picture on MFK just browse to your file and attach it to your post.

Buckeyes must be better at football than internet forums.....:D

disclaimer (Sorry about the Buckeye jabs but you guys have been taking it to us for too long....)

nice sketch, perhaps an access area so you don't have to walk all away around the bar to get to the tank on the right...you could build in one of the flip top bars you see in the old west...also the beam can be boxed in and made to look nice (match the bar)

for now the beam will be finished drywall. the ceiling will be t-bar / drop. i am not crazy about the corner set up like this. a tank back there might look neat but its kind of secluded and back too far. imho it sort of defeats the purpose of having a tank you can look at and enjoy tucking it back like that. i also kicked around the idea of two 180's. 72 x 24 x 24 would also fit and then open up that back corner for ??

the 2d export to .jpg worked fine. the problem i'm having is the browse. when i hit the insert image button i only get a window for a url. there is no way to browse. not sure whats going on because i have used it before without a problem. i first thought it was google chrome because it worked fine at home ( IE 8 ). now i can't get it to work anywhere. i will figure it out eventually.

buckeye jabs are fine. i can take em just as well. you know how we find michigan from ohio right??

Look above you because we're on top?

no you go north till you smell it then west till you step in it. insert whatever colorful metaphor you like for "it".

Ha, ha very funny.

The link isn't working. Did you try going to the advanced and manage attachments? When you go to manage attachments it will bring up another window where you can browse to attach your 2D file. After you upload it you can close the window and post your reply.

Here's a picture of my tank I'm finishing up.
