any culprit worm kills in my lakes, my sister caught a 9 lbs LMB thursday on a texas rigged purple culprit. the bass are getting ready to spawn in my neighborhood so im going to bust out the tube worms.
When all lures fail, don't be afraid to go back to the basics. You can jig a sinker and crayfish on the bottom. I fish a wreck on lake erie when I fish for smallmouth its in around 18 ft and they are money!!! Just Remove the claws throw them over and let them go to work! We might catch 20 on a good day. Most of them being between 14-21 inches. I normally won't fish for them, because I'd rather target fish I can take home for supper.
jet black finese zoom worms, texas rigged. ive caught bass from 6"-26" on that setup. for watching the fish strike though i like rapala's skitterpop in a brown frog pattern. the 2" size one.
I have had the best results in the south here, with rubber worms, notably the Okami brand. Usualy they are a finesse worm or stick worm with a dark color. In all honesty I have tried ALOT of plastic baits and okami must taste better to the fish. Bass usually swallow them whole, and I need to re tie and use another worm
and if I'm hungry and I want to catch some quick fish to eat.. a Mepps spinner works wonders on large mouth bass and panfish
