I recently added an 8 inch orino with my 14 inch ocelli togive him a buddy and maybe will show him to eat again. The orino will eat anything I throw in except pellets but the ocelli will not eat anything. He wont even go after live food. I haven’t seen him eat for nearly 3 weeks now. He has eaten 2 minnow in 6 weeks and am wondering how he is still even functioning. He still looks very healthy and swims around even showing some aggression to the orino. Should I just wait him out? I am afraid I am going to show up one day and see him belly up. Should I stay away from feeding live and stay with shrimp, fish fillets, etc? Water parameters have not changed and have stayed 0ammonia, 0 nitrites, 7.1 ph, 30ppm nitrates, and 82 degrees. I’ve tried bumping the temp up and has done nothing to trigger appetite. Has anyone had this same experience? Getting worried.

Thanks! I raised him on live feeders and thought this fasting he has decided to go on would allow me to get him off them. He wont even eat them now. I will keep it at 85 though

Make no mistake he is is sick treat him for external parasites first see if he recovers first .If not you will have to take it a step further and treat for internal parasites..Temp will help to speed up life cycle of parasites for sure ..most likely picked up a bug from some feeders just takes a while to show sometimes ..85 to 89 degrees ad airation also some salt for better Oxy transfer to the gills Good luck.....

I have been starting to think he has some kind of parasite but how do I know? Nothing shows on the outside but maybe he has something internal that I cant see. I am scared to put chemicals in the water and try to let things run their course but this situation may be different. How should I go about treating him? I am guessing I would have to put him in a hospital tank. Let me know. thanks!!

Local fish store ask for what they have that is strong enough for gill flukes and other such parasites go from there and if he has something the whole tank does for sure ......

The others dont he has been living with the spotted gar his whole life and that thing crushes anything and everything I put in the tank. He is getting huge. It is only the bigger bass not eating.

dosnt matter if one is sick the others have come in contact treat the whole tank i recommend prazipro by hikari use a full treatment its gentle on fish and gets the job done if you have fed him feeders his whole life ur lucky hes not allready dead try to get him on shrimp ,cut up fish its much healthier for him

If I have a 220 gallon tank should I get the Pond solution size instead of the aquarium solution size? More concentrated I guess.

no get the aquarium size the pond solution will probably be too strong. I treated my bigger tank while back due to my bichirs getting bichir worm from a new aquisiton that i was told was treated but was not....so i treated that tank and then i decided to treat my grow out tank with my 4 wc rio meta and my bahia even though i didnt think anything was wrong and i noticed now that the growout is much better looking so I am guessing there was a possible parasite in the tank. It it just like a person you could have throat infection i would look at you and be like he looks fine must not have anything wrong wwith him....good luck hope everything works out.
