Wow that goldfish is amazing, I find it hard to believe that the ability to have the scales flowing in that way is a genetic trait (I believe)

Those used to be culled but I guess they’re gaining interest. Haven’t seen any in my parts but I’d love to find a ranchu with scales like that.

Wouldn't the scales going in different ways put the fish at a disadvantage? My thinking is that each time the scales go in a different direction there would be a weak spot where they change. Does anyone agree or disagree?

Interesting question. Maybe.
Perhaps if they are pushed into something hitting those scales that are forward facing might do more damage then a fish who’s scales all face backward.
