In the last week my Arrowana has started to act bizarre. Smashing into the glass constantly and freaked out when you go by. The only thing I have done differently is added some rays to the tank however I can't imagine that is the reason other than perhaps a parasite?

Any ideas?

How big is the Xback? I threw in 3 rays with my silver last week and now hes very jumpy.

I highly doubt its a parasite since youve stated that it freaks out when u go by it.. did u recently pick up that fish? You shouldve added the rays in before the aro, that way he dont freak out as much with new tankmates being added. also avoid sudden movements and make sure your temp is at 80

80 is to cold for an arowana. 84-86 would be better.

Does this happen at night, lights on / off, is water good?

80 is not too cold at all. it is perfectly fine for aros. i have mines in 78- 80 with rays also.

Is nobody going to ask about the water parameters? Rays can be quite an added bioload and I have seen many aros get jumpy when water params are off.

rays produce ALOT of waste, im thinking its stress due to new tankmates or dirty water, or a combination of both. You'll need to do more water changes.

My thoughts exactly.

actually 80 is just about perfect. 86 might just be too warm. And why would you tell him to up the temp, that would raise the aro's metabolism and cause it to be even more active and the next time he rams his head into the glass, it might swim even faster :screwy:

Boydo has 5x the experience with Asian Aros than you do, I would take his advice. He has over 100 grand in Aros in one tank. Tim (rudy) is also a very experienced fish keeper, water quality won't be a problem with him, I can almost guarantee that, and he probably has a sump on the tank.
