Boydo has 5x the experience with Asian Aros than you do, I would take his advice. He has over 100 grand in Aros in one tank. Tim (rudy) is also a very experienced fish keeper, water quality won't be a problem with him, I can almost guarantee that, and he probably has a sump on the tank.

Ive only been keeping asian aros for a bit over 20 years, so boydo has 100 years of experience? Wow, Boydo's pretty old. I've stayed at asian aro farms down in malay for 3 years a few years back, i think i know what im saying. Im not saying Im better than Boydo or anything as maybe im not. There might be stuff he knows that i dont and vice versa. I never said 86 degrees IS too hot, i said it MIGHT be too hot. And its a proven fact that if you raise the temp, the matabolism rises and cuases aros to swim more actively and faster. One more ram into the glass could potentially kill it especially if he hits it harder than last time. BTW, having a sump on the tank means nothing. Having a sump could still mean you have unclean water or have horrible filtration.

80 is not too cold at all. it is perfectly fine for aros. i have mines in 78- 80 with rays also.
:iagree:

actually 80 is just about perfect. 86 might just be too warm. And why would you tell him to up the temp, that would raise the aro's metabolism and cause it to be even more active and the next time he rams his head into the glass, it might swim even faster :screwy:

:iagree:

That only means Boydo has DEEP POCKET :D That does not mean he has 5x experience with Asian Aros than anyone :grinno: (no offense to Boydo)

Well said! :clap

Bottom line, the ray themselves could scare and stress out the aro. It may not be the water condition, and if it's the water condition, raising temperature would make it worse, could result in fish fatal! Just make sure the water is good, keep the light off for a few day, and give the aro some time to adjust with change in his living condition. BTW, 80F is about perfect for arowanas. 84F-86F does increase metabollism and causes arowana more active.

Water quality if fine. The tank is on a drip system and I do 80 gallons a day.

It happens during during the day.

How big is your tank? how many rays did you add in? How big are the rays compare to your arowana? Do you leave the light on?

Almost forgot to mention, Even though you say water quality is no problem, you're the one who questioned rudy's water parameters, not me lol. And i really dont care if someone has over 100 grand in one tank, the cost of all my fish is probably more than your assets combined...

When you added the rays....like said here...your water quality would have took a dip from the added bio load, this would recover quikly with strong filtration. Sometimes simple things like extra air bubbles or floating some keta leaves will help reduce stress.

I only mentioned the temp due to the post above mine saying to turn the water up to 80, I assumed yours was cooler than that which would make for upset aro.

For Asian Arowana theirs not a farm that keeps in water cooler than 28C (82.4 F). FYI the Perfered temp is 28-32 C or 82.4 - 89.6 F for Asian Aro.

HAHA.....are you kiding me? I don't see any pics or post of Asian aros from you or the others, with all the know how.

BTW....I Surely am not an expert.....just a hobbist. Best of luck with you aro rudy!

I don't have 100 k in aros...first off.
Second this is a thread to help a member with his fish not a pissing contest.....so get out of the sand box.:screwy:

Back on topic......

Lets not make this a big dick contest....because I would win hands down.

Asking about water quality is a logical and good question as I did not expand. I do not need any saviors I can discuss my fish keeping by myself. I do not know a heck of a lot about Arrowanas. I know enough about rays. I think you could be right saying the Arrow is stressed by the rays. Fair enough.

Lol, I usually keep my nose in posts north of the 49th parallel, but I can't resist from throwing in a few comments.

I might try dropping the water level a bit (so that if the aro jumps up it won't smack its head super hard on the canopy), and I might try adding a few "dither fish" - tinfoil barbs always work well for me.

Otherwise, yeah, water parameter check, maybe an airstone.\

Good luck with it Rudy! :)
