BD's & 2 New 480 builds + sump

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks!

The first sump has 8 - 10" cylindrical Ceramic Diffusers and an MEDO 80 Linear pump.

The second sump I'm going to use round flat diffusers glued to the bottom of sump so they dont move run by another Medo 80.

I looked into inline seperators but they are $350/seperator and it's an expensive experiment if they don't work.

I will get videos up soon.

Radial flow separators are really easy to DIY. I built my pair out of plastic 55 gallon drums and they seem to catch a lot of crap. My only complaint is I didn't think they'd work on their trial run so I did not put drains in them, I have to siphon the crap out, but they seem VERY easy to get to work. I'm catching lots of crap with NO media. Filter sock changes last at least twice as long.

IF you're gluing the diffusers down are you worried about having to change them when they plug up? The kind you have pictured look like some I've tried and they didn't last 6 months in my hard water. I've tried numerous diffusers but have NOT found any I like yet..... I tried the big black ones and plummed them through the bottom of the tank but the media can get under them.... Still looking for the "right" ones.

How many lady Pearls do you have? Maybe my male would be happier at your place then he is here......

Mike I was so impressed with your setups and the beautiful Rays I remember everything you told me about them... I remember how much you said it cost to feed them each day.. LOL .. I love the hobby and try to learn and remember everything I can about it!!! And by the way my cat fish and bass love that food, the cats was coming up to the top of the tank to get it before the bass ate it all!!LOL..

instead of gluing down the diffusers you could always just use some spare acrylic and go around them that way they have an area to stay in and the replacements would drop right in. I would say 4 pieces about 3" high would do it.
