[/QUOTE]reverse;3634851; said:Must be pretty easy to catch, that is a small castnet.
JoeFatFish;3634898; said:It is bigger than looks in pic, since it has been folded and "skirted" in prep of the cast. But no it is not as big as the ones for fish. It is actually a net used for catching shrimp. Fish cast nets are bigger, but also the "holes" of the net, so as to let small fish escape and hold the bigger ones for eating. I can tell you that beani or Istlanum for me have never been easy to catch. Even this last trip, we caught 4 adults in 5 hours. Once we moved down river to the "estuary", it was like catching flys with honey though. My theory is that since it rains very hard in these areas, many fry and small juvs get washewd down river, and the estuary is huge, miles long and wide, reminds me of the Florida everglades. So it seems this area with so many shrubs with root systems under water serve as natural net and catches all these small fish and they grow here. Also I am sure lots of breeding goes on there as there are millions of places for a very small beani to hide, and yes here they are very easy to catch, so I can only imagine the astronomical numbers of beani there are in that area.

JoeFatFish;3635090; said:It actually is more like 5 ft, and opens about 6 ft. I am 6' 1" and when I stand it up to untangle it, it is right under my chin were the rope starts, with the weights touching the floor.
That fish is absolutely stunning it would be shame if it remained the only one in the US.jcardona1;3634828; said:
So ok yea...yes its 3 feet of cast net. I am sure Mexico follows the International Cast Net length and operture rules set by the International Cast Net Association...LOL!!!
Just kidding you man. But like I said, I'm 6 foot 1 inch and tall and I expalined the net, whatever, its a net and it catches the cichlids. Oh and I paid $30 new for it, ouside Mexico City, early this year. Or is that to low a price for a 3 foot cast net, and it should be more???
Ok I'll stop..peace!reverse;3635247; said:a three foot net opens up to 6 feet..........a 10 foot net opens up to 20 feet
