I'd say the fact that he has a camera worth about $800 and I have a camera worth about $40 makes a big difference :P

I'll trade you a pair of beani for a Nikon D40.

Added salt to the tank today, fish seem to be energized and more vibrant from it - no ill effects. Just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone was worried about doing so.

According to Joe the lake these guys are collected from is so deep that there is a marine layer below it, and the fish have been seen darting into the marine water and coming back up to the fresh water...food for thought.

They're also eating romaine lettuce, for those of you wanting a way to combat impacted digestive tracts.

Personally I prefer to use epsom salt at 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons and increasing the temp. to about 84 degrees.

Out of print magazine write up on beani a friend dug up - if some one thinks they can clean these up or translate em' into text I'll send over full sized copies...hopefully they show up on here.

That's awesome, nice find.

i am feeding mine the following:
spirulina brine shrimp (hikari)
brine shrimp (hikari)
cichlid excel (hikari)
formula 1 /2 (ocean nutrition)

i intend to get red worms when the weather cools down (don't want to end up with a stinking pile of dead worms) every other day.

i do 20% water changes every other day with my pre-mentioned aging water 'technique'. all my tanks are filtered by sponge filters, temperature is 78F and water is straight from the tap (aged). no additives etc. except water conditioners.

my tanks are bare with some clay flower pots i broke up, some driftwood (cured) with anubias, java fern, java moss (the later two just floating around to provide cover).

pretty simple set up but i guess effective.

all my fish are separated and i do not intend to have them in contact with one another.
