Beani conversation thread.

I've read/have been told to stay away from feeding live blackworms because it may lead to digestive problems....maybe bloat. Now is this advice based off of experience/what is know in regards to beani....or other fish that are similar?

I ask because one of my beani doesn't really show a lot of interest in the algae wafers and sinking pellets....but will eat until its belly is round if offered live blackworms.

So should I stop feeding blackworms regularly?

First casualty in the tank - one of the texas got an eye picked out, I assume by a beani...other then that they're still all doing great. Growing like weeds.

I still have four 5" Beani, two 3.5" and seven small ones (2-3"), along with 8 Gold Tiger Motaguense (Rio Chamacal), and six 2" A. Nourasti, and aside from the "normal" chasing, I have not had a single problem. All fish are now eating, which is great, as I was afraid the big male beani would never eat, but they just started nibbling on the crumbs that flow out of the others gills. All fish are in a 110 gallon. Most of the beani and all the rest of the mentioned cichlids eat like pigs on HIKARI, Cichlid Bio Gold Plus, Cichlid Gold Sinking, and Cichlid Excel. I just offered them Sallys Frozen Krill which the attacked and ate with gusto. They all eat this way everyday, once a day, until they are all very round and fat. No problems with bloat or anything as of yet. Also as mentioned earlier, no aggresion that has lead to murder, just a little chase but nothing serious.

Mine are now showing red on the dorsal fins and the spotting is faint but looks like it's coming through. Fin's are getting alligator scale looking. Extremely red eyes. and black edging on the Anal fins. Still no aggression. Being fed NLS, Hikari Excel, Hikari Gold, Hikari Krill, Algae scrappings from other tanks and Romaine lettuce.

It looks like the four 5" fish are actually 2 males and 2 females. I do plan on breeding them, that is if they want to breed?? I mentioned in Ronnies thread that I am planning to go back to a lake full of beani and bring back 4"-6" Beani. Does this interest you? I have a guy in Florida asking to save all of them for him, but at this point I do NOT want to have most Beani in the hands of one person, especially a Florida Fish farmer, not yet, unless there is NO interest anymore from any of the hobbyists?? Let me know for sure and I will send you a beani or a few. Thanks!

What do you want for one of the five inchers? :)

Or you might be keeping them for breeding.
