beani trip: Baluarte plus Pacific Fat Sleeper

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A "decent and reasonable request"??? Huh... you sound like the bigger a****** here actually. Oh yeah the OP is to just simply hand over his connections, resources, exporters, and best practices most likely learned through putting in the necessary effort and hard work just because some random person on this site just so happened to ask?????? Do me a favor and pull your big head out your a** next time you want to get worked up about a thread and just be thankful that the OP actually has the ability to bring in such rare and beautiful fish from some of the most hostile and hard to find places. Stop derailing this thread now and watch this man do what he does best, something obviously you two saps don't have the slightest clue how to.

And what rock did you crawl out from under? BTW, obviously UMBEEKING has star power and you're 'smitten'. Fortunately, I've got a much bigger and healthier picture than you. I have no problem with the great work that Joe or 'king have done and might be doing. But there is no place for the childish attitudes being displayed. Divulge all the secrets? Cut into the big payoff? Nonsense. the name of the game is to move this wonderful passtime forward ... and are appropriate responses too much too expect on an adult (??) forum?

OK..... looks like I missed a lot. FYI to all and I'm ending it here as this was supposed to be a fun thread.
Everything I and will bring is 100% legal on both sides. I never said I "have it all figured out", please don't put words in my mouth. There are no links that I am aware of. I do have USFWS full blessing and my network of friends I have made throughout the many years is fully licenced to collect and export. The fun fact is that I get to go and catch what I want and have it shipped to me after it has passed Mexican inspection and all proper paperwork provided. These are relationships I've had for many years.
So hiding.... nothing! These are fish we are talking about not a diamond mine.
I will post pictures of the trip once, once back. Hope everyone enjoys them and the fish. Take care everyone.

Cheers,

Joe

Thank you Joe, and good luck.

Yes - good information... in order to legally enter the US, it must pass Mexican inspection. USFWS can ask for those documents.

It would be good to know the process for a hobbyist (or a commercial entity) to receive such a permit. As I understand, Juan Miguel Artigas, who is Mexican and probably knows more about Mexican cichlids than anyone in the world, has not been successful in obtaining the proper permits for people not affiliated with academic institutions.

Awesome, be safe on your adventure and good luck.

Many good points, JD.

There are real risks for people who get caught smuggling - intentionally or unintentionally: money, jail, you losing your job, etc.

It also risks screwing ANYONE who want to bring back fish. USFWS and foreign governments can make it even harder than it currently is or impossible... and justify it because of a few bad apples.

In the end, there are relatively few people in the world who really know or care about these fish and would bother with trying to mule little brown fish back to their fishrooms. In other words, we're all in this together. Like it or not.

The more that there are clear, repeatable processes for hobbyists to collect and bring back a few fish for personal use and enjoyment, the more that the few in the world who seek to do this can do it efficiently and legally.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure why there had to be so much BS and drama about knowing which forms to fill out ;)

If anyone wants to know about bringing fish back from Uruguay, let me know... or check out my presentation at Cichlid Club of York on June 28...

Matt

This went down hill quickly. I don't personally get all of the secrets and hostility BS. Everyone acts like if they tell people how they get the fish thousands of hobbyist are going to go to Mexico to take everything they can and ruin the hobby. About 0.01% of the aquarium hobbyist in the US even have any desire to collect fish and out of those the vast majority do not have the funding to do it anyway. Matt is asking about collecting in a completely different area anyway. When everyone acts like its a secret we all know the reason answers are not given. These fish are not coming back legally. If someone wants to risk there future for fish that is there prerogative. We all have our own paths to walk in life and we all have to decide what is most important to ourselves. I'm not perfect and I'm not here to judge anyone, but lets not fool ourselves and act like something is on the up and up that is not. Many of the most famous people in the aquarium trade have smuggled fish for years. In the last several years regulations have stiffened and many country's do not allow exporting of fish unless it is research related. Some bad apples always ruin it for everyone.

As for the hostility, I promise that people on this forum do not talk to people in person the way they post on here. It's typical mob rule nonsense with no consequences because you are protected by your computer screen. It's human nature to jump in and act tough when there are no consequences, it's not human nature to act that way to peoples faces because no one like to get the S@@t beat out of them. Or as it often goes in todays world stabbed or shot.

Seeing new bloodlines in the hobby is great and I respect anyone that is bringing fish in. I would prefer it to be legally but to each there own and hopefully Joe is in fact doing it legal. Looking forward to seeing the beani when they show up. They are cool fish.

Omg .. Star power smittin? Really?? Apparently you're a bigger moron than I thought. Read my comment again and hopefully you'll realize I was referring to a comment you made when you had Matt's balls in your mouth. .. But enough of this circus show and I'm glad Joe got back in here and cleared this mess up a little... This is exactly why this site is all but dead, too many threads like this and too many members here thing they have the "healthier picture" lol.

Joe good luck on your collection trip and I look forward to seeing your fish in person ;)

While you're at it, can you bring some of these? I know their common but still beautiful :) Look at pic # 4, remember that motaguense?
