Bearded dragon's or savana moniter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I gues it was a bad idea i didn't think it would matter to much if there were fish in a pond on one side of the enclosure. Being that there are ponds and fish in the wild i figured if the bearded dragon's didn't like the water they would just not go in it or just stay away.

There aren't a whole lot of ponds where beardies are. There might be some shallow pools in the scrubland but that's it. I agree with coura I think some sort of water loving lizard like a water dragon or basalisks might work better if you don't mind a tropical lizard. Then you could utilize the pond idea with appropriate fish and everything.

I really dont see why you cant go with a pond
beardies are found all over australia where there are pools, ponds, rivers, streams and they would settle near a pond for the abundance of prey
and they wont be stupid enough to dive in the pool and drown
I wouldnt do a very large pond and I might on put a few guppies in it
I hope this project does well for you though

but if you did hours and hours of research I would say get a dumerils monitor and make your large pond and do a tropical setup
it wouldnt be terribly hard

I was just going to go to wal mart and get one of the little pre formed ponds and put a few little fish in it maybe sunny's idk but it wasn't going to be like a 3 foot deep pond just something little with a little waterfall i could put in the corner. Like i said before i have no clue on how to build a tropical rainforest type enclosure i'm kinda new to that. I have done tanks that simulated the woods and i have done a desert type enclosure but never a rainforest or tropical.

ok so use topsoil around a foot, seal all edges with a pet safe sealer you can get at home depot for 10 bucks, seal with silicone around the edges, get some tropical plants, wash plants and transplant to the soil
get two shop lights and in your heat lights use mercury vapor bulbs and use lots of logs going up and across
you would have had to seal it anyways so just look at varinos build and search around at how to build it, you seem to be making this harder then it really is

i didnt know if there was some special trick then just getting logs and tropical plants like the special bulbs that you mentioned. I'll have to look into what types of plants to get and everything logs won't be a problem i planned on getting some either way. Well as soon as my tax's come in i am going to start building i am thinking about getting a 40 gallon breeder tank to start growing the moniter's up so they are kinda big when they get in there. Would it matter if i got a few moniters like a mix of a couple males and a couple females. Or would you not want the males together at all. I know my girlfriends green anole's fight sometimes. Would it be a good idea to get a fogger so that they can have a little mist early in the morning?

you would have had to use the "special bulbs" anyways
you should really do a heck of a lot of research
