I agree with all....I would like to know how to make a good beef heart mix. I had some from the mossongrass guy and my fish loved it. A diy post on this would be cool.

i feed pure beef heart, just cut into small pcs. some people put it in a blender

Go to your butcher and ask for some beefheart. Your going to have to de-vein and trim the fat off the beefheart which is why I don't buy it myself anymore (too gross!). Some people add stuff (i.e. tetra bits) but I would just cut up into cubes and freeze. Then I'd defrost before feeding and throw in a cube. Really messes up the water but Discus thrive on it!

Okay, I made my own beefheart mix two days ago...

I went to the butcher and got 2 pounds of trimmed beefheart. I paid a dollar more a pound to have him run it through the grinder a couple of times.

2 lb ground beef heart
1 - 12 oz package of frozen peas and carrots
1 bulb of garlic
1 1/2 pounds of shrimp

I thawed the veggies and prawns. Peeled the shrimp. Then I used a food processor to pulp everything. I mixed everything together in a bowl and then filled two large freezer bags. I bled the air out of the bags, spread them flat, and popped them in the freezer. The fish love it... I was going to add gelatin to firm things up but I didn't think it was really necessary.

im going to try that. whats the garlic for? and how much did you pay for the beefheart? also is this good for oscars

Repels parasites and acts as an anti-viral and anti-microbial agent.

I think the beefheart was like $3.50 a pound after I had them trim and grind it.

All of my fish love it.

I was always to lazy to go thru all that...lol... never the less, I would always buy Jack Watley Discus Formula from my lfs.... Fish loved the hell out of it
