Beginer Lizard

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Leopard Geckos are probably the best beginner lizard. They are pretty hardy and don't have a ton of requirements. You could probably keep two in a 29gallon just don't house 2 males otherwise they will fight to the death.

He also might want to consider crested gecko's. I've never kept them myself but I've heard good things about them. Make sure you get "the right kind" they say?
He could also consider a small/medium sized generic skink like 5-lined or Fire.

As for a beginner lizard I would recommend Leos over Cresteds. They are easier to care for, cleanup is a breeze they poo and pee in the same corner so spot cleaning is super easy. They are more hands on so if you want to handle them they don't spook as easy.

If u don't care to handle your lizard a crested beats a leo ,

don't need additional heat in most home
eat a prepared diet so no insects are necessary
stay relatively small and are gentle.

I agree Ozz. Cresteds in my opinion are easier to keep than leopards. The fact that they need very little additional heat goes a long way in my book.

Yes but require a much bigger cage than a 29 gallon.
I agree 100%
uv lighting
supplements
larger space needs
more varied diet for beardeds
leos just supplements, proper heat and insects
cresteds- just use repashy crested gecko diet and your good. no extra heat if your home doesn't get any xtra cold and your generally good.

yeah, leos or crested if hes dedicated to a pet lizard. if its his first there's a real good chance he will get bored of it fast and ignore it. in that case get em a green anole, or whatever your favorite lizard is. so you can rescue it when he gets bored of it :)
