I just want to say hi to everyone on MFK, I am new to the forum, and to the pet fish thing.

I have a small tank about 10g, with a couple of very small fish in it. I have:
1) 2 Silver dollars
2) 2 Bala sharks
3) 2 hi-fin sharks
4) 1 Siamese fighter
5) 3 Gouramies ( 1 sunset Gouramie, and I don't know what the other 2 are, they are blueish.)
6) 2 Plecos
7) 1 small snail

I intend to upgrade to a larger tank soon.

Now, I just want to ask:
1) How soon will I need a bigger tank for my fish?
2) How fast can these fish grow, and how big?
3) What kind of environment do these fish like/prefer?

Any suggestions and answers will be appreciated.

Thanx

The hi fins get 3 feet, I would reccomend getting rid of them.
for the balas, silver dollars and plecos, 100 gallons,
the rest; 20 gallons

All of your fish are very hardy and adaptable, but the 100gal inhabitants grow to 5"to16".

i agree.
i cant see anything lasting too long. upgrade as soon as possible and get rid of the hi fins.
welcome to mfk and hope u find what ur looking for :D

Hi and welcome! This is a great site, you'll find a lot of people here who'll give you some great advice and help you along with things.

since you said youre new to the hobby you may also want suggestions for filtration

13 fish in that 20g may i ask what kind of filtration you have?

I have a ground filter and a small filter that sticks to the side of the glass. I am not sure what it's called.

Would you recommend any other filtration system?

if your keeping the 10g for the time being, get an aquaclear 20. its the best HOB (hang on back) filter you can get in my opinion.

definatly drop the hi-fins, unless you plan on having a HUGE tank in the near future. the other fish you have can all be worked with in a reasonable tank, 100g or so, you have some hardy fish that are perfect to get you started in the hobby.

read up on as much as you can on here, and dont hesitate to ask any questions you have, no matter how small or stupid it may seem to you.

Here is a "general" idea of what size your fish will get..........

silver dollars 6 or 7 inches
bala sharks 13 inches
hi fin shark 24 inches or more
siamese fighter 3 inches
sunset gourami 3 inches
blue gourami (three spot) 4 inches
common plecos close to 20 inches

Like others have mentioned....unless you are going to get a HUGE tank...get rid of the hi fin shark.

For the rest a 125 gallon would work best. A 75 gallon would work but wouldn't be as good as the 125 since the balas get big and like to swim fast.

Thanx for your replies, I will give the hi fins to my fiance, he has a 100g tank, then he can get rid of them if he wants to, because he bought them for me.

I will probably get a bigger tank at the end of the month, should I get a bigger filter, or the one you suggested?

Do you know if these fish, like rocky environments, lots of plants or just sand?

Here's a photo of my whole tank...
