beex - it depends on what you're after. I've trained to fight since the age of about 10, and have never touched weights. I'm very fast and very strong, but to look at me I look completely slim, but with big shoulders. I can throw people around much bigger than me, and knock out the average ******* with 1 punch.
I don't care about my body looking ripped and toned and buff, in my opinion lifting is just for looks. I am slim, yet rock solid, that's fine for me.
Fighters like shane mosley were never the same after going on weight programs, half the speed, no snap, worse stamina, believe it or not even less power in the punches. The only thing he gained was more raw strength in clinches etc.
I guess weight lifting to me just seems something superficial, for a buff look etc. I'm happy with the way I look so I have never needed to do weights.
