beex - it depends on what you're after. I've trained to fight since the age of about 10, and have never touched weights. I'm very fast and very strong, but to look at me I look completely slim, but with big shoulders. I can throw people around much bigger than me, and knock out the average ******* with 1 punch.

I don't care about my body looking ripped and toned and buff, in my opinion lifting is just for looks. I am slim, yet rock solid, that's fine for me.

Fighters like shane mosley were never the same after going on weight programs, half the speed, no snap, worse stamina, believe it or not even less power in the punches. The only thing he gained was more raw strength in clinches etc.

I guess weight lifting to me just seems something superficial, for a buff look etc. I'm happy with the way I look so I have never needed to do weights.

ahhhhhh slow twitch muscles!!!

ok maybe you can kick my ass in boxing

but how well are you in kick boxing?? :naughty: BRING IT!!

did i say cut my hair? OK i got caught in a fib.... actually we went to the same Salon.... i just didnt want to say i went to a salon for haircuts LOL....... she seemed cool to me...... she was Hott back then.......

I'm soo out of the loop with boxing..... i couldnt even give you a uneducated guess as to who would win........

nothing wrong with getting a hair cut in the salon

i do it alll the time:D

and all the lady in the salon are HOT!

This post was about benching not about who's tougher or the better puncher ??? If someone is a good fighter than cool, be secure about it, don't feel the need to tell people that benching isn't everything because most of us already know this. Fighters or strikers obviously do not need Huge muscles or BIG bench presses to throw bombs. Remember strength+speed=power and of course add in technique and natural ability. There is an MMa fighter named Tra Telligman (name may be slightly off) that doesnt even have one side of his pectoral muscle and he throws serious blows with basically only half a chest. Chuck Liddell is another well known fighter that more than likely doesn't have a huge bench press and we have seen what he can do. Tank Abott in his day was benching in the 600 LB area and still got his ass handed to him several times (respect to Tank and his incredibly heavy hands) If you are proud of your IMPROVEMENT in bench pressing than cool, that is something worth being proud of because it probably took some discipline and hard work to attain. If you are a fighter than cool, you know more than I can say here, lets all show some humility and celebrate improvement and accomplishments! While bench pressing or "maxing out" may be useless to some, it can be rewarding for others. By the way anyone benching in the 400+ range is an animal!!!!! A bench that big has to be almost all genetics(respect to the hard work)!!!!!!!! I've known guys that work out like crazy and cycle roids, the works, and can't reach much past 4, numbers like that are crazy!!!!!!! I won't list my bench because I don't want to decrease my punching power!!!!! ;) :mr-t:

I agree E. Also, keep in mind that powerlifting is some peoples' sport. A big bench may not help in one sport, but it is vital for powerlifting, strongman comp., etc...

"There's really no need to "MAX" unless you want to be a power lifter... and that is usually only used as a "benchmark" of progress.... pun intended.... instead if you want to increse strength use a close to max weight so you can push atleast 6-8 reps...

in a Nut Shell....
there's basically two types of muscles.... Type A (fast twitch) muscles... found in powerlifters and usually "higher weight" people..... these muscles are also called "white muscles" full of nerves, water and fat.....which can deliver "EXPLOSIVE" force.....

Type B (slow twitch) muscles are ones you usually see on body builders and high endurance athletes...... Also called "Red" muscles... they have less fat, less water, less nerves... but more blood vessels which deliver more oxygen for them to function for longer period of time........"

^^^^ there we go.and also this is a max bench thread.

^^^^i totally agree that size doesnt matter.but you said that it is pointless, now your saying it depends on what your after on a mx bench thread.you should have just used this post instead of the 1st one.

o and we talk about this in another thread i made a while ago.bodybuilding has nuttin to do with fighting.for example bob sapp being huge fat+muscles gets his as beat badly by quite a few other smaller build guys.he is all size no technique
