Ok fill me in what is the best first fish to get? i wanna get something cool but not expensive.

Def Convicts! They are cheap, look great, hardy, and breed easy. What else can you ask for?

Yup! They are still one of my fav fish!

It really depends on what you like and how big a tank you have, here is a nice mix of hardy fish that run between $3 and $10 each and could all be kept in a planted 55g standard tank,
1 banded gourami
1 pearl gourami
1 malaysian leaf fish
3 african butterflyfish
3 giant danios
1 croaking catfish
3 bandit corydoras catfish
