Best arowana food!

did you have a vet check your dead fish and tell you it was from the shrimp? or are you just assuming it was?

i have had aros for many years aswell and never had problems. i prepare my fishes food myself, i make sure it is at a quality i would eat before my fish get it. if i wont eat it my fish do not get it. i have high quality pellets that i feed my fish, but that is not all they get.

you say over and over "the toll it takes on your water" what proof do you have of this? if you fish eats it right away and nothing sits i want to know how it herts the water.

another point i feel i must bring up is rays. rays are far more fragile then any aro, yet one of the main foods givin to just about every ray out there is market shrimp. funny, would think if it was as bad all around as you say it is, why are there so many fish that are givin it and are the healthiest fish youll ever see?

just because you dont like a food doesnt mean it is bad. you can cause just as much damage to your water with too many pellets and letting them sit as you can by letting shrimp or any other food sit. i would like to see facts regarding the distruction of the water quality but feeding shrimp over pellets. i am not talking if it sits around on the bottom, i am talking you feed it and your fish eats it right away. i must know how it has time to foul your water?

One thing I am not going to get into, is a debate with you, Sbuse. I have had my experience, you have yours. I am not againsst your way of doing it. I just state my opinion based on experience and i will not guve you my water parametres, for crying out loud.

My fish eat the pellets straight away, in less than 2 minutes. Shrimp can get stuck under a rock or wood, and that is what i mean by toll on the water. I find it cleaner to feed pellets. It is a thing of mine, what do you want me to say?

And no, i have not had a vet examine the fish. And yes, i know for a fact that shrimps can be lethal, both in terms of quality and with their head spikes.

I used to feed small shrimps, some time alive, some times frozen by the guy who collected them and then packaged them.

One day, a kilo package must have been rotten , AND NO I DID NOT EAT THE SMALL RAW SHRIMPS AS I DID NEVER EAT RAW LIVER, CHICKEN OR BEEFHEART OR WONDERWORMS WHEN I USED TO FEED THEM ( do you try yours? ) and the next morning two 2 footer silvers and one 2 footer CK were dead...

Coincidence? Possible. I made the connection and switched immediatelly and definitively over to pellets.

Was it not the shrimp? I will never know...

I never hav had great luck with nutrifin...when kept aros, fed Hikari floating carnivorous sticks.

so ones the aro out grows the pellets or sticks wat do u guys do

If you so choose, you can just feed more pellets. I have a near 30" black aro that will still eat flake foods and 1mm pellets that are meant for other fish in the tank. This even though it is well feed with market shrimps and larger pellets. In the wild large fish consistently eat small insects such as mosquitos.

it was a lengthy but simple reasonable question. you perams are your buisness. you have been persitant about how if you feed anything esle other then pellets your wasting your time, yet never have a reason. i have never said pellets were bad, just need to mix things up. i just wanted you to justify your reasons.

you find it cleaner, i geuss your aros never chew the pellets you give them. all the chunks coming out of there gills dont just disappear. i give my fish the seafood one at a time. if they dont eat it and it falls i dig for it if it gets stuck and take it out. simple, no chunks from chewing coming out the gills to fall into the same wood or rocks the shrimp does in your tank to rot.

so your talking about it sitting around in the tank, ok. thats what i wanted to know. it doesnt actually take a toll
on you water if your fish eat it.

i feed pealed and cleaned shrimp, no head spikes. you can tell bad food from raw before you cook it. no tasting. i cook seafood all the time, it is not hard to tell by touch and smell if a food product is bad or not. maybe you dont cook your own food, but i do. if something isnt quality high enough for me to COOK it and eat it the n i dont feed my fish it. i also feed alot of wild caught fish. i catch and process them myself. cant get any bad batches from that.

justification is all i wanted. no debate, just simple explanation as to why every one was wasting their time feeding anything other then pellets. if you tell people they are wasting their time, that generally means you have a problem with a way something is happening.

like brian said. if you want to feed just pellets, find larger or just feed more. you can also feed seafood to your aro, just make sure it eats it all and nothing falls to the bottom to be foregoten just like pellets.

I do not feed anything else besides pellets based on bad experience i had, as explained.
I am convinced that nowadays you don't need to feed anything more than good quality pellets.

I am convinced that there is a risk that some piece of whatever gets hidden and that if it happens it gets spoiled quicker than pellets. And that takes a toll in the water.

And i am convinced that any pellet that gets to the bottom gets eaten more probably than any piece of whatever that was refused or lost.

My experience tells me that fish will still search for pellets for far longer than whatever.

I am convinced that whatever is not eaten right away it won t be picked up and eaten again.

With my fish if i fed one piece of food at a time, the less agro ones would never eat. Simple as that.

I never cooked food, in any case. Fed it raw. And no, if it was the small shrimp that killed my fish i did not notice anything wrong with it.

Now i think i explained my reasoning more than once.

Fish do not die, are lively and healthy and my filtration systems seem to be doing their job.

You have your experience and your results. Fine with me. You seem to want me to validate your method. I won't. I won't out of my personal experience.
