Best bait for standard minnow traps

use cheese combos, those are the best things to use without a doubt. they cost maybe $3 for a bigger bag but your minnow trap will fill up quickly with those

Problem is I would eat all the bait before I got to the lake or stream.

Take a can of tuna fish, and pop a couple of small holes in with a knife or something. I've tried alot of different things, that worked best.

Old bread. Effective and cheap (since I'll probably be throwing out anyway)

This is one I'll have to try. That is definitely different. I normally use that crappie/panfish bait that comes in jars. It's not cheap, but I have a few jars......I have no idea why cuz I never fish with it, but that's why it's trap bait. When I don't use that I use velveeta rolled up with bread or crackers. Sometimes I'll add a little food coloring to make it stand out a little bit, and it takes very little to achieve that.
