Best beginner bird

Conure's through Petsmart are a bad idea, if you're going to be spending more then $100 on an animal it's always best to go through private breeders that can show you their stock and their temprements.

Hand fed, hand raised conures are a great pet, but most of the birds at Petsmart/PETCO come with their own emotional baggage.

ya i think he is into the love birs and quaker. He would like some thing docile, and handleable. he will hold it a lot, and something that can talk. thanks, more info in these two birds would be great, pm me or something.

my uncle has a cockatiel and it swears at him ...lol

Ha my grandmother had a cussing mynah bird that my uncle won I think in a poker game. I haven't seen a mynah in years though...it was an excellent talker.

Make sure that you are able to keep quakers in your state. They are considered a agricultural pest in many states where they now live wild. I know that they are illegal to own in my state.

Oh lord - don't get a quaker. The only thing they are good for is stew...
Parakeets can be excellent talkers and can be kept in a manageable cage and are pretty funny and agile.
Cockatiels are wonderful first birds as well and very personable - but tend to become nippy if handled wrong and can be loud. Excellent whistlers.
I have button quails - they are darling.

I have had parakeets, a cockatiel, and a ring neck dove. The dove was the easiest to care for and was easy to handle and liked being with people, the cockatiel was also easy to handle and could talk. My first parakeet was very tame until i got a second one and now they are both fairly wild

Get a hand fed Green Cheek Conure. Buy from a breeder and if possible become best friends with your bird while he is still eating baby food and too young to come home with you. Visit your bird often and you will not believe the transformation when he leaves the noisy bird store and becomes part of your flock. Green Cheeks have a BIG personality in a small package. They also can become good talkers! Mine constantly asks us "whacha doin!" Whats funny is that everyone answers him! Just remember that birds require attention and time outside of the cage (it's best to keep their flight feathers clipped). And as Red Devil LIZ said a clean cage and clean water every day is a must. This is my green cheek conure Louie..
