HI MFK. I've really been thinking about what to put in my 122g. But i've decided to go with a pair of big fish with maybe a pleco to boot.

I'll decorate the tank with lots of caves and rocks to shelter the female and buy 5-6 fish to pair them off. The problem is what kind of fish. I want the biggest fish that can fit into a 122g and live happy.
Filtration will be an fx5 and an emp 400.
I dont want oscars cuz there not for me. I want something to wow me.

Any help would be great!

Festae. Hands down.

Severums and geos look nice but im looking fr something with a bit of toughness to them. Im not saying that they dont have any, its just that there not what im looking fr either.

Those other fish like the festae, midas texas jags all sound like something for me. Especially the festae. I've heard they're called false red terror or something like that.

Any info on these festae would be great. Like they're aggresion towards each other, eating habits, growth and breeding. Srry for all the questions, i think i found the fish for me.

festae are the true red terror....the mayan cichlid (uropthalmus) is the false red terror.

What are the dimensions of the 122 gallon tank?

Festae are gorgeous cichlids, especially the females. they are relatively slow growers compared to other cichlids that grow to similar size. Several years ago I purchased 5 or 6 juvie festae and grew them out in a 125 gallon tank (6' x 18" x 22"). There was minimal aggression but as they started to put on size I decided to add a few female convicts as target fish. The much smaller size of the female convicts as well as multiple hiding places I gave them worked out very well. The festae pair had very little aggression towards each other. They can be quite aggressive with each other, especially if one is ready to spawn and the mate is not.

Not sure what all kind of info you want...feed them a quality pellet like New Life spectrum (there are others out there but NLS is my new favorite), frequent water changes, overfiltration etc.
