Severums and geos look nice but im looking fr something with a bit of toughness to them. Im not saying that they dont have any, its just that there not what im looking fr either.

Those other fish like the festae, midas texas jags all sound like something for me. Especially the festae. I've heard they're called false red terror or something like that.

Any info on these festae would be great. Like they're aggresion towards each other, eating habits, growth and breeding. Srry for all the questions, i think i found the fish for me.
Mayans are called False Red Terrors. If you want Festae, go to a reputable source and ask for "Festae". Don't even mention the name red terror. There's too much drama and misleading tied to that title. Festae are beautiful and aggressive fish. If you buy fry, you should get a group of 6 or more and grow them out. That will make it easier to get a compatible male and female. Plus the juveniles will often injure or kill each other as they grow. But having a male and female doesn't mean they will mate. Festae are known to be rough on their partners when one is ready to breed and the other isn't. You will need places for them to separate when the fights start. They grow pretty slow but their adult sizes are impressive and beautiful. There are a lot of members on this site that have them. You may be able to find fry or adults from people here. I sold all of mine but I think I will get them again when I'm able to devote a tank to one pair.

The dimensions ofthe tank is 60x18x27. I only said 122g because i thought the actual gallon was in that range. Anyway do you think two festae can live in the tank for life?

I've heard they grow to around 12-16inches. I have a divider which can separate them if they get fiesty with each other. If i do the same thing was u would Jason, should i add target fish?

I was thinking firemouth or something?

I think you will need something larger for two full grown adults. Especially when they need to separate. I hope dithers work for you. My Festae killed any and everything. I had a female convict that lasted longer than anything else with the Festae. She lived with them for several months and then one day I found her torn to bits and floating in the tank. It will take them a while to outgrow your tank so you have time to save for an upgrade.

I had a feeling you were going to say that. Thankfully i have another tank coming. Its a a really big tank and im not able to get it into the house cuz my mom says no more tanks in the house.(im 16 btw lol) My uncle said the dimensions of the tank were 96x24x30; Something like that. i dont think i could fit it thru the door.

Anyway ill try it out. Ill buy a grp of em and grow them out and remove the non-paired fish. Then when that happens ill ad some dithers and give u guys a pic of how things are coming.:D

Good luck. I remember how it was being 16 at my parent's house. You have to honor their rules for sure. My mom would never let me have a tank larger than a 30, so you're pretty lucky as it is. I hope to see some pics of your fish when you get them. Remember, go to a good source or member and ask for Festae. Don't ever mention red terrors. If they don't know what Festae are, then you don't want to do business with them.

at one point I moved my pair from the 125 to a 75 gallon and they were 3 yrs old, the male close to 10-12" and the female about 8". They got along fine in the 75 gallon for the duration I had them in the tank. My pair were very compatible with the occasional chase but never anything violent but I got lucky.

I would definitely have some kind of divider on hand just in case...I always had one just to be on the safe side.

i've decided to go with a pair of big fish with maybe a pleco to boot.

If you want to breed something and raise the fry, you might want to leave the pleco out of the tank. Some plecos can become quite good at egg eating at night when the parents cant see them to defend their nest.

x2

U guys are proably right. The pleco will eat the eggs and the festae might attack the pleco. Also the pleco will create a lot of poop.

Anyway on to pressing matters, say i have the pair and they breed. Should i leave them wit the parents or take em out immediately? Also can i sell them to my lfs for store credit? I've never done this before.:D

Ask your LFS what they are looking for. You might be surprised that something rare or expensive may not be the first choice. They may prefer something that is a regular seller and not a fish that has special housing or needs due to size or aggression.
