I find my rays feed heaviest on live black worms. My rays accept many different foods but when worms are offered they feed ravenously. I still think that if you want optimal growth you need very very very clean warm water and a but load of food. Again, I will say I think black worms will put size and weight on them best when feed on a consistent basis.

what size are your rays as black worms are mainly fed to small rays how much black worms do you think you would need to feed a 24inch disk motoro per day

again beef heart is messy its all about clean water with rays

my rays are 8" and under id imagine for a 24" ray you'd be feeding 3 or 4 pounds a month. i feed 2 rays one 8" one 5" a pound or two a month. plus other stuff.

so you think a 24 inxh disk motoro would eat 3-4 lb per momth when you are feeding a lb each now to 2 babys good luck with that one

the main growth spuirt was down to being moved to a much larger tank but i did see other thing like the fish stopped scratching as much due to what i can only put down to to much salt in the food which fresh water fish are not used to

or the big ST had been stunted for so long from not getting the right vits a massive growth rate of a ST of 15 inch is 2-3 inch in a year not something that happens over a few weeks

what you also need to remember is big companys like hikari spend loads of money resurching foods for each type of fish thats why they dont just have one pellet on the market look at the new massivore packs they now have a ray on them

Thats just called marketing, they realize there is a whole new niche to market to.
Listen I don't dispute that pellets can't be a valuable part of the diet with the vitamins they contain, I just don't believe it should be the staple of the diet.
That would be like telling a human you can live off of supplements and vitamins and you don't need to eat the natural foods around you. Not realistic
and not healthy in the long run. Again, JMO

I took a guess as should have been evident by "I imagine". I feed a pound a month for 2 8" and under 3 times as big = 3 pounds.

Also I feed other stuff as said above. It depends on how much black worms you feed. I would never feed only black worms.

Maybe next time try to politely disagree instead of being a bunch of smart @#!es.

Dogs and cats can live just on a pellet deit what makes you think rays can't

Or is pellet foods for cats and dogs just marketing

All pet food makers spend far more time and money resurching the benefits of pellets than you or I do and let's be fair a large amount of threads on MFK are asking how to get different fish on pellets

Like I said I have grown new born pups to adult breeding size with just being fed on pellets and for me that is research in it's own right 6 years research to be exact

T1Karmann ....... A little blast from the past. ;)

Unfortunately it appears that David's posts have all been deleted?

Marketing issues aside, for those that want to argue optimum nutrient levels, pellets vs fresh/frozen, you can read my thoughts in the link above. I think that some of you have vitamins, confused with pellets.

I'll ask the same question as I asked repeatedly in the link above.

Exactly which amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, trace or macro minerals that are found in a rays natural diet, cannot be supplied via a premium pellet food?

If anyone can answer that question I'm all ears.

Hi you grumpy lot:nilly:

I would not be suprised if the OP has gave up with you lot.

Chill all he asked was a godd food to bulk up, we all feed different and have different tanks and set ups, so......

I feed mine morning, just pellets what ever goes in the tank the eat as all the other fish, i use 3 different types of pellet all in at once a little of each, thenm at night they get a little more pellet and also prawn, cockles, mucles and salom, each one alternate days, the love it and they have gone from 5 inch to around 8 inch in about 12 weeks.

Can them same vits be found I the one major frozen foods most people feed like frozen prawn

I think you will find that most people who don't feed pellets feed rays solely on frozen prawns

When I say I feed pellets I don't just feed hikari I mix my pellets and even use a earth worm pellet and earth worms are what you seam to talk so highly of

Again I ask have you done 6 years research on just feeding pellets like I have I admit I have not cut rays open to see what effects pellets have had on a rays internal organs but that's because all the rays I have fed on pellets are still alive and I expect them to be for many years to come

Can you point out ANY side effects you have seen from feeding rays just on pellets as you don't feed your rays on pellets because you feel they are bad for them I don't think you are in any position to comment on the good or bad points of just feeding pellets
