I HAVE A 10,000K AND A T5 ACTINIC BLUE THAT BRING ALL THE COLORS OUT BUT BE SURE TO REPLCE THEM BULBS EVERY 6 TO 8 MONTHS
I use aqua glo they have a calvin rating of 18000k and are very inexpensive like 7-12 dollars each depending on the size bulb you are looking for.

If your are experiencing algae growth then be happy. You are actually creating their natural food source. I would suggest you reap the algae and feed it to your fish. This is the best food for them. I have stopped using the tubes and use standard cfl house globes. Promotes algae growth which I harvest fot the fish from time to time. My new wild caughts I collected about 10 days ago started feeding off the rocks almost immediately.
