Im not asking for stocking suggestions, iv recently been able to set up a large cichlid community for the first time as iv only had room to keep singles or pairs. I have my stock that i plan to put into it but id like to hear off you guys what was the best community you have ever owned, tank size, inhabitants and if it worked out in the long run.
My tank will work out at about 275g, inhabitants will be 1 jag, 1 texas(h.carpintis), 1 midevil and 1 trimac. Hopefully it will work and i will monitor it closely and really look forward to hearing your experiences

Not that every experience is the same but I had a trimac that killed both a jag and a texas. All of which were less than 4.5" at the time. My best stock that i kept would have to be Female Jag, Male Mota, Albino Oscar, Red Snook, a male convict (sole survivor of countless fry that were devoured) and I also kept a large jardini with all of them for quite some time.

i already have the texas, jag and midevil, which are about 7 apart from the midevil which is about 3.5-4 and i plan on getting the trimac a couple of inches smaller than the rest of the guys. il just have to keep a close eye on them but so far iv been quite lucky as they all seem relatively calm, so far(fingers crossed) That sounds like a great tank, do you keep a simalar stock now or have you moved in a different direction?

i moved around stock since then and had a series of tragic events with the ones that I kept. I'm looking to restock my self actually. My plan is a black aro with either argentea's or another vieja. I actually really like syn's but the ones that jeff has are too big considering the current size of the black that I'm looking at.

When I used to run aggressive CA/SA community tanks, I found I was continuously changing fish around into different tanks and tweaking everything, rearranging etc. Making things work out for the long run is an ongoing process IME. GL with your new set up, don't get discouraged, remember that things don't always work out the way we want.

thanks balton, im gonna have a spare tank set up just in case things go belly up and like you said im going to be prepared to move fish around or remove in the worst case. Im really looking forward to getting a trimac as iv never seen one up close never mind own one.

dont flame me but i find it easier to do a community with a overstocked tank because aggresion really spreads out and so far my 180 g is full of 3-6 inch fish and no deaths here is the stock list, also all fins are perfect, but what you have to do is remove all the aggresive fish and everytime i have a super aggresive fish i sell him and replace him but so far i only replaced 1 mean texas but he was 7 inches big , dont hate me but my fish are all healthy and thriving , i just have lots of hiding places

 That RD and Umbee will kill off half of those fish. That expensive RT will go quickly, I would sell that fast.
