Wouldn't synodontis cats and clown loaches eat all the food before the bichirs get to it? My polys usually take about 10 second after food hits the ground for them to go look for it.
bristle nose plecos.. havn't had a single problem like people have been saying. have had them with my bichirs for over a year now. 5+ plecos with 10 bichirs.

X2 on the bristle nose. I have had mine for 5 years with the only concern being one of the big bichirs trying to eat him. Not great for clean up on uneaten food but helps with algae on the glass.

It will not be a problem since most loaches are not big enough to eat large chunks if tilapia. You should get the biggest loach you can afford to avoid them from being a bichir meal.
I've got loaches mixed with my bichir, they don't touch the Carnivore pellets that I feed my bichir. They do race around for the blood worms/brine shrimp I feed but I just put enough in for all. Esp. since I've got a ABK and spotted leaf in with that enjoys them all =D
