There's nothing I'd like more than to continue calling my 'melanurus', 'synspilus'. but 'synspilus' is considered to be just a color morph of 'melanurus' (same species). A lot of fishkeepers don't agree with this change but apparently DNA analysis says it's the case. Synspilus is considered a junior synonym for 'melanurus' so the new name for Vieja synspilus is Paraneetroplus melanurus (yes, even the genus has been changed, there no longer being Paratheraps or Vieja). You can check these things out on Google. Just enter synspilus melanurus. I've got both forms and to me, they are quite different in so many ways (not just color) that I'm hard put to believe they are the same species - but I'm "going with the flow".The picture you attached is not melanurus.
