I think red terror is the best looking cichlid color wise, and some strains of discus.
But Africans are great, especially the peacocks

Yeah, they are pretty random.
My first was kept last year alone up until he hit 4-5", and always hid. I tried tetras to get him out of hiding, he didn't care. I ended up re-homing him because of how shy he was.
I seen a bunch of rescued jacks at my LFS (guy told me someone dropped off 20+ juvies in a few inches of water in a bucket) and had to get one. This current jack is much more active. He has standoffs with my con, and knows to move away from my FM. Never hides, always around in the open. I'm hoping he stays that way but given jack's adult activity I'm not sure.
Its got to be red terror . The female more than the male my female has more colour and is way more aggresive than my male
