So i got a 140(think its 150) gallon tank and although i have loved my rena xp3 on my 75 gallon i want to get "the best" for my new tank. with that said any opinions on which model i should run would be appreciated.

there are 2 pro 2 models one with heater/ one without.. is this a good built in heater?

it will be fresh water cichlid tank so is the pro3 overkill?

just not sure which one to buy. money is not an object. (within reason) not spending a grand on a filter.

I've read some mixed reviews on the Pro2 line, and I believe the Pro3 line replaces it with newer technology. Personally, if it was me, I wouldn't buy a filter with a heater in it. It's just one more thing to break in a filter and it could be a costly repair. I'd just get a seperate heater, like the inline Hydor Eth line. I'd also personally just get a Eheim classic filter instead of the Pro2 or Pro3. These have a bullet-proof reputation and have less parts to break. None of the newer priming features are necessary IMO.
 
I have a classic and a pro 3 and vastly prefer the classic to the pro. It is far easier to clean and work on and the double disconnect valves make priming much more simple vs. the removable tap on the pro. IMO I would run multiple 2217s, instead of a single pro 3
 
hey guys.. thanks for responses i might get the professional 3 anyways, only because it is one sick unit.... but i still might go with 2 2217's... the pro 3 is just so high tech... it's cool in the fact it can self diagnose itself and idk what precision is talking about with the removable tap for priming... the video said you push a button(showed the button) and the pro 3 primes itself. it also knows when air is inside of it and removes it all...

i do like the idea of two filters on such a size tank though because if one goes atleast the other would be running... i do have a fluval 405 for back up incase anything hapens to either one of my tanks...

anyone elses input and the input recieved is/has been greatly appretiated, i have some thinking...

If you want to go 2217, then you need four of those.

I personally would go with the classic eheims. Easy to clean and just simple, though for ur tank you should get the larger 2260 like what harley said. I got the 2217 on my 50 gallon and I'm thinking about adding another filter or something for more circulation. High tech is good but you can't go wrong with a bucket and pump filter,that's pretty much what the eheim classics are.
 
Classics are easy to clean? I must be missing something. My 2217 is a bear to clean, I hate doing it honestly. My 2028 pro II is super easy to clean and prime. I greatly prefer it to my 2217. Don't get me wrong, the 2217 is a great filter. It works very well and is dead silent, I just hate cleaning the thing.
 
What's so hard about cleaning the classic's? Unplug> disconnect> drain> open> clean/ replace white pad> remove bio(alot easier if its bagged)> rinse sponge> rinse rings> reassemble and ur done. 350 for the 2260 at Drsfostersmith is great just to bad it's on back order :p
 
2260 has been discontinued... you think parts will stay available as i hear these filters can last a very long time(why replace if it works) how you like your pro 2 blue2?
