Pinching pennies, losing dollars. A filter that won't last is just a waste of money in the long run. I would spend the $200 on the FX5 (first choice), or alternatively go with an eheim.

I actually own that exact same fake fx5, it works great. i had a minor defect with the lid, but i emailed the company which is in the united states and they sent me a new one, ever since then, not a single problem and its been running over a month.
OP, if you can't afford the fx5, then get the fake fx5. But i prefer sumps, so i would say the best filter would be a sump.

dude, just ad another ac110 and call it done.

canisters are great, but are costly...

if i were you, i would seriously look into making a sump. from all the research i've done recently, a sump can be set up for a fraction of the cost and work just as good, if not better then a canister.

I would say around a 30g would be perfect, just look on craigslist or somewhere to find a used tank. There are a lot of DIY sump builds in the DIY section. The most expensive part for a sump is normally the pump.
